CHAPTER NEWS UPDATE 8-28-10: Chapter meeting at Sportland in Champaign. We rode there along Rt 150 and I-74. Meeting was at 10am with usual discussions, including the Fall River Ride event. We inducted new members John and Jean Page, Welcome John and Jean! Next event is the Multi-Chapter ride to Ted's Garage in Clinton on Sept. 11th. Next meeting Sept. 18th at Cupi's to finalize plans for the Fall River Ride. In previous news: 8-23-10: Sunday saw about 10 motorcycles take the latest version of the STAR 482 river ride. Don led the first half on the east side of the river taking the famous Tail of the Gecko then up through Washington to Germantown Hills, across to the river and up Route 26 to Lacon where we took a break. A couple bikes headed home from there, and the rest led by Mike, crossed the river and we worked our way down to Chillicothe, and then up and down the bluffs in Mossville, Detweiller Park and finally beautiful Grand View Drive. Then over to Hickory River BBQ near Grand Prairie for some good food. We were met by a few other bikes at the restaurant and 14 people had a great time talking and enjoying the day. This ride was a preview of a ride will will have this fall when the leaves start to turn. We will set a date in October for that and hope to have a good turnout for some of the states best leaf peeping and curvy roads ride! We have had a couple of nice area rides recently. Sunday August 15th we rode to Rantoul for lunch and a tour of the Rantoul Aviation Museum at the former Air Force base there. If you haven't been there, it is just $10 and very much worth it. The display of former Air Force (and some civilian) planes is impressive, and the P-51 warbird being restored on site is worth repeat visits to see the progress. The gentlemen doing the work have been at it for 6 years and they are within sight of the end. the engine is in, and they are working on the suspension. The ride was enjoyable with temperatures and humidity down enough that riding was comfortable, even if it was still a bit sticky when stopped. ------------------- STAR Days was a real HOT t ime at the Choo Choo! Yes, it was well into the 90's with high humidity every day, but that just made the pool outside our rooms that much more inviting. There were several members of the chapter there, Mike & Di, Will and Janice, Randy and Lana and Don and Jan. Our friend Joe from Italy (via El Paso) was also there and added to the fun. About 1000 Star members took over the Choo Choo and were all over the area on their bikes all week. I hope to have some pictures up soon. ------------------------------------------------- ![]() 482 members at the 488 meeting 1-16-10. (click images for bigger view) Mike and DI, Brad and Stephanie, and Don and Jan attended the new Chapter kick off of Chapter 488 in Elgin on Saturday Jan 16th. I looked like 25 to 30 STAR folks attended from around the area. We all went for food later and enjoyed the day. ![]() Star 482 members and others at Ted's garage in Clinton On Oct 3rd.
